Sabbatical.. finally
Transitions are hard. It has been hard to wrap up all the details of our move, sale of our condo, sale of my beloved fist car, and say goodbye to all our friends. Then a problem with my visa caused an additional delay and some personal stress. All the details have been confirmed. We are leaving tommorow for Fiji via LA. Then off to Hobart from Fiji. Finally riding to Launceston accross the state by vehicle. It’s time to focus again on some of the central goals of our year: sabbatical, simplify, rest, rejuvination, adventure. Our pastor Tim gave a great sermon on this, because he is also going on a sabatical.
It seemed to be the perfect message at our last sunday in Kansas City. Sabbatical is about cutting away the the things in our life that unecessarily travel along with us in life. These things keep us from experience a full relationship with Christ. The prevent us from full relationship and community with people we care about. When I was dreaming about taking a sabattical, I wanted to simplify my life. To focus on my relationship with Erica. I wanted to rediscover the other loves of my life that have been put on the shelf while I developed my career. Not to leave out my career, I want to become a better doctor by experiencing the way another medical system cares for patients. At the heart of it all, I hope that this sabbatical will remove distractions from my relationship with my God.
