Hello Tassie Winter

We arrived in Hobart to take care of some buisness. I must admit, I was not quite prepared for the drop in temperature from Fiji to Tassie. I left Fiji in shorts and a golf shirt. I walked out onto the tarmac from the jet to a chilly drop in temperature. It’s winter time in Tassie.

It’s not nearly as harsh as a Missouri winter. When you’re coming from paradise, the temperature difference seems more significant. I actually caved in and wore my mittens while walking around at night. Not that I know what temperature it actually is because everything is in the metric system out here (“there’s just no rythme or reason to it”) In any case, Hobart is a beautiful port city. Very cosmopolitan for a city of only 200,000 people. Lots of old architecture this is the 2nd oldest city in Australia. We ate some great seafood with frest Tassie scallops and fish and chips probably caught earlier that morning. The city also feels a bit european. The streets are lined with lots of specialty shops with great pedestrian only walking malls. There are lots of older building remodled to the latest style with modern shops. The true thrill for me came when I stumled across a TARGET! Well, all who know me well know my love affair with Target , epscially when compared to that other retailer that kills small towns. Well, I got my medical practitioner visa stamp and the blessing of the Tasmanian Medical Council. (not an easy feat from what I hear from other doctors) Now that its all legal, I’m ready to start practicing medicine in a Tassie winter.
