A Fine Day for a Drive
While Hobart was a bit wet with some intemitent showers, the forecast for Launceston is “Fine Day”. This is the officail Tassie forecast description for a sunny day. So on one fine day, we were picked up by a driver from the hospital and driven across the state. The countryside between Hobart and Launceston is quite beautiful.
There are lots of green rolling hills with mountians in the backdrop. Being a very agriculturally based economy, there are also lots of sheep and cows. After a 2 hour drive we arrive from Hobart to our new home in Launceston. We are pleasently surprised that our home is bigger than we imagined from the photos. Quite a bit larger then our condo in Kansas City. The apartment is in a renovated building that has only 2 units. There is a wondefully large master bedroom with a half moon of windows. A large second bedroom is pefect for guests! The kitchen is very modern and the living room is nicely decorated with modern furniature. There is also a nice gated courtyard behind the apartment. Everything from the appliances to the furinishing seems very new. The apartment is perfectly located between the central buisness district and the hospital. It is only 5 minutes walking distance from the hospital. There are alo great buisnesses right outside our door with cafes and green grocers as neighbors. Launceston is a river valley city. The central buisness distict ends at the rivers edge and the joining of two rivers. The city also seems perfectly suited for us with a diproportianate amount of great restaurants in the city and winieries lining the valley. What a fine day to start our new home in Australia.
