Thanks to everyone in the Maemo community for voting me into another term of the Maemo Community Council. I’m honored to have had Dave Neary‘s nomination and I’m honored to be serving the community once again.
There is a lot happening for Maemo during the next six months. If you’d like to participate, please join the conversation on the maemo-community mailing list!

Nice work, Flickr!

After the nominations were opened for the next Maemo Community Council, I wasn’t completely sure that I’d jump back into the mix. While I’ve had an extremely rewarding time being a part of the Council, these things — as you may know — have a tendency of becoming more than originally expected. To explain further, I must divulge a little personal information.

If you haven’t seen it, check out the spec for the latest iteration of the Maemo user interface. It’s pretty slick and I can’t wait to install the new SDK so I can give it a spin!

My son may not be starting as early as Jaffa‘s, but it’s never too late…

I've been playing around with
xFruits -- a new service that allows users to convert RSS feeds into other forms (like RSS to PDF) and vice versa (like email Inbox to RSS). It's pretty darn cool. One of the features is called
VocalFruits, which turns text-based RSS feeds into podcast feeds. Listen to this blog's "podcast" feed "here":http://vocalfruits.com/timsamoff/wd7602/.

A few days ago, I mentioned that I’d be trying to fix the broken commenting functionality on this blog.

Yeah, the comments still don’t work. Maybe next year.

In an attempt to fix some of the odd commenting issues that have been happening around here, I’m going to be upgrading the underlying blog software to the latest PivotX release. Because of this, this blog may experience some downtime while I try to upgrade the style templates to match some of the new technology.
Ye are henceforth warned.

So, if you haven’t seen it via Twitter, Jaiku, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, or — heaven forbid — word-of-mouth, I’ve recently completed my latest Portfolio Reel…

The commenting system for this blog has been down for a while now — don’t know why. Unfortunately, I don’t really have the time to look into it. If you need to contact me, please do so by using the Contact form by clicking “Contact” above (or, you can email me at tim at samoff dot com).
Sorry for the inconvenience.

It came as a surprise this morning when I learned that I was laid-off. It’s unfortunate, but with the recent buy-out, understandable. Anyway, if you’re looking to hire a designer/filmmaker/user experience/writer/musician sort of fellow who is creative, innovative, passionate, self-motivated, easily adaptable — someone who makes his bosses look good… Then I am your man. Have a look at my LinkedIn profile, or become friends with me on Facebook. I’ve got over twenty years experience and I still love what I do.
(Also, I understand that this is not Maemo-specific, but I wanted to inform the community that I’m available — thanks for understanding.)

I’m a little late in posting this but, I only just got the Google Alert the other day.
While at c-base, in Berlin, a few video testimonials were shot of some fellow Maemo community members and I. The idea was that the community may be able to share a perspective on what Maemo is that would be useful to Nokia corporate.

Yesterday, I sat in line for over two and a half hours so that I could vote absentee. I sent the absentee ballot forms in the mail almost a month ago, but I still hadn’t received anything. So, in order that I could vote (since I’ll be in North Carolina next week), I headed down to basement of the Plaza Library and waited my turn.

Imagine meeting a distant family member — one whom you may have known something about, but never actually had the chance to meet. The feeling must be extraordinary: seeing a stark resemblance (if not with you, with someone else in your family), sharing similar likes and dislikes (maybe even common paths taken or avoided throughout life), reminiscing about completely disconnected times, but having an odd sense that the two of you are not as different as you might have expected… Now, imagine doing this with almost three hundred people.

My presentation is finished (will be posted after Maemo Summit) and loaded onto a thumb drive, I’ve got the camera batteries all charged up, I’m almost packed… All I have to do now is get on the plane. Which doesn’t happen until about 1:20p tomorrow.
