[Book Review] A Community Called Atonement

It would be irresponsible of me to tell you that , the new book by revered theologian, , was important. Why? Because it is not just important. No, A Community Called Atonement is probably one of the most important Christian books to be published in this theological generation.

Sure, go ahead and trust everything your doctor says...

I learned (and was reaffirmed in) a few things this week:

  1. I am a medical anomaly. Ask any doctor that I’ve seen in the past few years and they will agree. (And, no, it’s not very cool to have a team of doctors under your arm).
  2. I went to see my hematologist on Monday and… I am most likely going to have to start taking Coumadin again. While no one can confirm that my blood disorder is what is actually causing all of the things I’ve been going through, they don’t want to discount it either.
  1. There are good reasons to get second opinions.

Another avo-update...

It’s been a while since my last avocado update. Since then, my tree has gotten to about six-feet tall, been pruned, and started to grow again. It’s a pretty amazing thing…

A recent discovery...

And, another reason to stress the importance of being your own patient advocate…

If you’ll remember, I spoke recently about the necessity to advocate your own health (and not rely on what any one doctor says). Last night, I was, again, reminded of why this is so important.

Islands Of Consciousness...

Sound and Images enter a very close relationship in which the randomly arranged musical phrases are taking direct influence on the visual outcome. So when you look at this piece keep in mind that all the visuals are assembled in realtime using photos downloaded from Flickr.com. All the transitions and effects are entirely random and only happening on you screen. Other people will see a movie and hear a soundtrack that is totally different from yours.

...

The infinite soundtrack is built upon Oleg Marakov’s idea to run multiple mp3 players parallel in shuffle mode just like musicians playing different instruments. In this case the instruments are not only pianos or synths but also natural atmospheres and sound effects.

Do yourself a favor and visit the wonderment that is .

Update on my MicroB adventures...

Thanks to the kind , via the user’s list, I was able to reinstitute the “Set engine” functionality of my ‘s web browser (read about what happened here) by doing this:

edit ~/.browser and change hidden from false to true

Thanks, James!

In addition, the ever-enigmatic (faithful architect of the browser) asked that I post this for others who might be running into similar issues:

  1. check and save the application manager log
  2. save /etc/apt/sources.list
  3. search “bugzilla”:https://bugs.maemo.org/

(He has a set for any web content that contains the word “MicroB,” so watch out!)

I agree… I could have done that before posting about it here. So, before you all start freaking out, please follow those steps.

Sunburned, parched, and otherwise completey spent, but I have finally emerged triumphant...

This occurred over the weekend. Actually, it wasn’t so bad… I’ve reflashed my so many times at this point, that the process has become fairly efficient.

Once again beginning the "long journey"...

Because of this, I’m once again beginning the “long journey” (which I wish was more of this than this). I don’t know if it’s a completely appropriate moniker, but I think it comes close — and, as most Nokia Internet Tablet owners know, it’s a process that can leave one exhausted, dismayed, and searching for water.

Wish me luck. Look for me on the other side.

Fifth anniversary highlights...

Julianna and I had a wonderful anniversay weekend. We stayed at a nice hotel, had a couple of days away from the the boy, got to soak up a bunch of art and culture, and we were there for our friend’s Mary & Jarod’s wedding.

I took a ton of photos (around 300, I think). If you’d like to see some of the highlights (only 25), go here.

For the last four months, I’ve been having some pretty severe hip pain in my left hip joint. I’ve jokingly called it my “bum hip” on many occasions and…it might turn out that I was more right than I thought.

The gospel of war?

Sometimes I feel like I’m part of a miniscule group of Christians who, for some reason or another, have never found the section in the bible that discusses the good news of war (or, even, the good news of nationalism for that matter). Read the following excerpt from a report I heard this morning…
