BERLIN BERLIN BERLIN (industrialites of Y2K!)...
My good friend (and ex-roommate) Mitchell (Minus Sign, Idiot Stare, Dissolve, Adkoc Producer, etc.) is the new keyboard player for Berlin if you can believe it (since April). I went to see them play tonight at Hollywood Park in Inglewood. All I can say is, “Wow.”
Terri Nunn is still amazing — vocally and visually (writhing on top of an eight-foot-high speaker cabinet or not!). It is her birthday — well, on the 26th, actually.
From “For All Tomorrow’s Lies” (with sign language accompanyment!) to “Sex ( I’m a… ),” the entire show was incredible. They even did Blondie’s “Shayla.” There was a crowd of about 600-1000 people and they sounded like an arena.
So, why is there the sub-head of “Industrialites of Y2K” on this entry? This may be some influence from Mitchell, but the songs were so…electronic sounding. And not in the standard 80’s cheese-synth way, either. It was hard-core.
You should pick up their new album “Sacred and Profrane LIVE (2000).” Find out more at www.berlinpage.com.
