Our day in Chicago...

(Finally!)

If you didn’t read about it already (here and here), Julianna and I went to Chicago last Friday to see the Cubs play, courtesy of our good friend, Jason. Well, I’m sure most of you know that the Cubs didn’t win — or make it to post-season. That’s too bad (especially for fans like Jason). But, I must say, it was probably the best baseball game I have ever watched. We also had a blast being touring the city with Jason as our guide.

Chicago is a great city. Neither Julianna or I had ever been there before, so it was quite a treat. We got to eat at one of Jason’s favorite restaurants, Lou Mitchell’s (where all the ladies get Milk Duds); we ate way too much. We got to see Sears Tower, Lake Michigan, drive underground on Lower Wacker… Of course, these are all fairly regular sites for those who live in Chicago (or visit there frequently), but it was a lot of fun for us.

Wrigley Field is awesome. If you haven’t been there before, I highly recommend it. It site smack-dab in the middle of the city. There is no parking except for on the street. People are everywhere. It is quite a site.

Inside the stadium is no different. I really felt the history as I entered. Being able to sit in the bleachers and see the surrounding city and the distant lake is a sight to behold.

The fans… Well, the fans are incredible. They are one large community of similar people who have no problem talking to each other about the Cubs, Chicago, or life in general. Wrigley Field and the Cubs prove that good fans make a good team.

As I said, the game was amazing, even though the Cubs lost. One of the things that made it so fun was the Cubs scoring three points in the bottom of the ninth. I have never seen a stadium erupt like that — the crowd were on their feet, everyone was cheering (“rally” caps on). It was more fun than I’ve ever had watching baseball.

Anyway, here are some pictures from our day…

I also love the photo of the field reflected in Jason’s glasses. What fun! I think I’m going to have to go see those Cubs next year…

Yep. A great day. I leave this fair city tomorrow morning early. I will miss baseball until next March (Spring Training) and April (Opening Day) – I hope to ‘expose’ more to this passion of mine – so whoever wants to go, just let me know. We can work it out. Southwest Airlines has some $75 roundtrip fares early in the year, so we can book flights then and it will be a cheap day. Tim – thanks for the vote of confidence on my tour operator skills. I actually love giving the “Chi-town” tour – it lives in my blood!! Great photos also…. Sweeet!!

Oh, and I forgot to link to one of my favorite photos from the game (fans who were sitting in front of us right after the Cubs scored their three points in the bottom of the ninth):
