The Drive-In...

I-70 Drive-In and I went to see at the drive-in theater on Saturday night. The movie wasn’t the greatest, but it sure was fun experiencing the drive-in (neither of us have been since high school).

There were a bunch of people there… Some stayed in their cars (like we did) and some sat on lawn chairs and blankets outside. Others had elaborate setups in the beds of their trucks. It was a neat family environment that I hope my kids will be able to experience when they’re old enough — there’s not many drive-ins left anymore.

Anyway, there’s not much point to this entry, except to tell you to go to the drive-in next time you want to see a movie. It’s fun!

(By the way, if you live in the Kansas City Metro area, we went to the — pictured above.)

I love drive-in theaters. We were lucky enough to have one in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It’s called, simply enough “the 112 drive-in” and it’s on — you guessed it — hiway 112 (which is the backroad between Fayetteville and Springdale). I snapped a pic of the sign one night: http://flickr.com/photos/wheat/678946/

That’s a great sign, Wheat… Like I said, I sure hope some of these things stay open!

Yeah, Dennis… You should go if there are any still around you.

Not really. At least that i know of. Remember when the one in Simi was open like every weekend. My Dad would drag us to the friggin swap meet eeeevery Sunday, too. I would get all my heavy metal t-shirts there. But yeah, the drive was cool if you went with friends. I think the whole concept could be resurrected with an advanced sound system.

Well, most drive-ins now, let you tune to an FM station to listen to the movie — that works pretty well. But, there are definitely improvements that could be made — if the drive-in remains a viable way to get people to the movies.

Is the Simi drive-in not open every weekend anymore? Man, that was the last place I went to a drive-in before the other night! :-)

And, back when Jason and Lisa (sorry, folks, but I’m having a personal conversation with Dennis now, so you probably won’t know who I’m talking about) just got married, we went and set up a big booth at the swap meet… Man, we bought a twenty pound bag of avacados for, like, $10! It was great… We sat there selling stuff, eating avacados like they were apples. Too funny… And I bought this HUGE survival knife that day too. I have no idea why. Ha ha ha! :-D
