Will a hip replacement make me cool?

Bad news, folks.

I got the results back from my MRI yesterday. Not only do I have severe (avascular necroses) in my left hip, but my right hip is catching up fast. This was completely unexpected news (the addition of the second hip, that is) and I’m still trying to come to terms with it all.

In any case (my emotional state notwithstanding), this most likely means that I will have to undergo a (total hip replacement). In other words, both of my hips are going to be swapped out for something new.

All of this has gotten me thinking about the aftermath of my heart attack a couple of years ago. Begin that it wasn’t caused by heart disease is a good thing, of course, but it still forced e to struggle with my own mortality quite a bit. I think I’m starting to plunge into those thoughts again. I’m trying not to, though.

Still, here are some of the thoughts I was thinking back then. Of course, they still apply…

Well, I meant hip as in cool… I don’t know how cool getting new hips is. But, I do know that it will be cool once I’ve recovered… However long that will take. :-(

Tim, wow man. I will totally pray for you. You are definitely in our prayers. I was just wondering: Will there be any restrictions the doctors will place on your use of your legs and.or hips after complete recovery is made? I would hate to see you not be able to continue playing your kick ball or any other mobility that you enjoy.

Wow Tim, sorry to hear that dude. Well, from what I understand, hip replacement has come a LONG way in recent years. I work with someone who recently had hip replacement and he was up and around in what seemed a pretty short time, and now he seems good as new and plays golf weekly. Keep us posted on when the surgery will be. I’ll be thinking of you buddy.

Will you get to keep the old ones? Yhink of the artistic possibiities … Hehe. I am actually sorry you have to go through it, but another dear friend of mine had it done a couple years ago and she says she now feels like a completely new person. Very hip.

...ask the doctor’s if they can save the ball joints – let’s hollow them out and have shots – ball joints make great shot glasses?
